Katie Peterson, MS, PhD Student (Biology)
Katie is originally from White Bear Lake, Minnesota and moved to Idaho after graduation from Gustavus Adolphus College for an AmeriCorps environmental education program in McCall, ID. Over the next few years she completed a Master's program at the University of Idaho, was a class instructor, did a second term with AmeriCorps, and worked at a local non-profit organization in Moscow, ID. Katie has greatly enjoyed the last five years spent in Idaho exploring the Pacific Northwest, learning to cook, and reading whenever she gets the chance!

Research Interests:
(1) Using phylogenetic and statistical approaches to answer evolutionary and ecological questions (2) Understanding the impetus behind life history or adaptive zone shifts among species, specifically in Galapagos Coleoptera and Pulmonate land snails (3) The influence of ecological gradients and discontinuities on biodiversity E-mail: [email protected] Website: mason-linscott.github.io Kelly Martin, MS, PhD Candidate (Biology)
Kelly is originally from Madison, WI and came to UI following the completion of her M.S. at CU-Boulder. Her research focuses on understanding the drivers and processes of biodiversification. She is particularly interested in how biogeography impacts the distribution, ecology and evolution of snails. She is passionate about utilizing museum specimens to answer questions at varying spatial and temporal scales.

John Phillips, PhD, Postdoctoral Researcher
I am a new postdoc/snail wrangler in the Parent lab, studying the biogeography and systematics of Galápagos snails. My research interests revolve around the nexus of ecology and evolution, particularly genomic evolution across diverse landscapes. Previously I have studied the molecular ecology of cave-dwelling salamanders (University of Tulsa), phylogenetics of anole lizards in Central America (Central Michigan University), and sensory evolution in Icelandic stickleback fish (Michigan State University).

I came to University of Idaho from Kansas City, Missouri. I'm planning on studying the microbiomes of Galapagos snails through the lens of ecology and evolution. My research interests are 1) to characterize the microbial communities living in the guts of snails in the genus Naesiotus with regard to diversity and functionality, 2) to use that data to elucidate which environmental factors cause changes in the makeup of these communities, and 3) develop models that make prediction about how various inputs on these communities will affect them.
